About the product

What is Smart Glass Reverse ?

PNLC Smart Glass is also known as Adverse PDLC Glass. Unlike regular PDLC smart glass, PNLC glass operates in reverse: it turns opaque when powered on and clear when powered off. Its versatile nature makes it ideal for both residential and commercial settings, providing privacy and dynamic control over the transparency of glass surfaces.

How it works

A clear view. Until you choose privacy.

Reverse PNLC technology keeps the viewing state clear without power. Apply power when privacy is needed, then switch it off to return to a transparent view.

Inside PNLC Technology

PNLC glass contains microscopic liquid crystal droplets embedded within a polymer matrix. Conductive ITO layers control the switching layer, enclosed between polymer layers and glass.

An electric field changes how the liquid crystals transmit or scatter light, switching the glass between transparent and opaque states.

Uniformly aligned liquid crystals allowing a clear view.
Power off · Transparent

A clear view without power.

Reverse PNLC glass stays transparent without electrical power, keeping the space visually connected.

Randomly oriented liquid crystals scattering light for privacy.
Power on · Opaque

Privacy when switched on.

Apply power to scatter light for a frosted privacy state. Switch it off to restore the clear view.

FAQ

Reverse Smart Glass Questions

What makes Reverse Glass different?

Reverse Glass uses PNLC technology, so it is clear when power is off and turns opaque when power is on. Standard PDLC glass works in the opposite way.

Is Reverse Glass a good choice for offices?

Yes. It is ideal for meeting rooms and interior partitions where glass normally stays clear and privacy is needed only at selected times.

Does it provide privacy during a power outage?

No. Reverse Glass becomes clear when power is off. For fail-private applications, standard PDLC glass is usually the better choice.

How quickly does it switch?

The glass turns private in under 200 milliseconds and returns to clear in under 10 milliseconds.

Is it energy efficient?

Yes. It runs on 60–80 VAC low voltage and consumes less than 0.5 watts per square foot while powered — and it needs no power at all to stay clear.

Can it be used in doors and partitions?

Yes. The laminated construction makes it suitable for interior doors, office partitions, conference rooms and other architectural glazing applications.

What colors are available?

Reverse Glass is available in white only. Grey and tinted options are offered on standard PDLC glass.

Where can I find installation information?

The technical manual above includes handling, electrical and installation guidance. A qualified glazing professional should complete installation.
